Get involved with Comenius 2012 @ LSA

Getting involved in the Comenius Partnership visit can be good for your culture! Whatever you do - do something! Get involved in some way whether you would like to host a student or give a school tour, there is plenty to do and help out with. Being a host family would be the best way of getting involved - you will gain cultural experience, make a new friend and show them around YOUR school - what a great way to spend a week at school! Come to H7 to find out more details or ask your teacher who can direct you to Mrs Underwood.

Comenius Hungary Day 5

Today we travelled to Bablona by coach. Bablona was a traditional 'stud farm' where thez train and breed Arabian horses. They enter these horses in world wide competitions. Today they gave us a very good tour of the facilities there. It was very interesting to learn about the different types of breeds of horses. They showed us the horses by parading them round with their trainers or attached to carriages. They then showed us through the horse museum and we saw some interesting exhibitions.

After this we went for our last lunch in Hungary. We ate traditional Hungarian Goulash soup and then finishd with a some guitar playing and singing!.
Finallywe went back to the hotel and went for a quick shop after we said a sad goodbye to some of our new friends from Slovenia and Italy....

Comenius Hungary Day 4 Tour of Budapest

Today was our excursion to Budapest.
We visited many places such as the Citadel, Hero Square and the Buda hillside. We also went inside the parliament buildings. The city of Budapest was very pretty and colourful. We were very lucky because the weather was so nice- just a bit of cold. There were a lot of souvenir shops where we bought some presents for our families.

We had lunch at a restaurant by the Danube river in Budapest. See the photo of our lunch below!
We were then given a tour of the Parliament buildings where we saw the changing of the guards- They really scared Eleanor P!!!! We saw where they kept the crown jewles from St Stephen the first King of Hungary.

We travelled back to Gyor where we had dinner in the hotel and then watched some Hungarian Folk Dancing. Then we were asked to join in! It was really fun!

Comenius Hungary day 1 and 2

Monday and Tuesday

On Monday after breakfast we went to the music school and met all of the other participants from the other countries. We had an opening ceremony by the music school and many countries gave their presentations, which were either about song or dance in their countries.
We then met the deputy mayor at the town hall and he spoke to us about the town of Gyor and welcomed us to his city.
Following the visit to the town hall we were fortuate to have a famous Hungarian pianist play some pieces by Franz Lizt. That evening we were invited to Annas house for a meal anwerd she showed us around the town.
Tuesday we were shown around Gyor and the Hungarian students told us about the city. We had lunch at a lovely restaurant and then finished off the presentations at the school. Our favourite presentation was the singing and Beat Box by the Polish students!
We finished our day with a visit to some local museums and a synagoge and then went to a museum of a local artist where we made some embossed cards. Eleanor and Eleanor!

Comenius Trip 4 - Day 5 and 6 -Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany

The last two days Mark and Tristan spent most of their time with their host family and the other students. We met up at the school on Thursday as it was a public holiday in Germany. While the Coordinators held their project meeting students and other teachers participated in mini- olympic games. From Basketball to Football they played sport for about 3 hours! We had lunch at the school which was provided by the parents of the German students. We also contributed - many teachers from our partner countries brought some good from their respective countries. It was quite an international meal.

In the afternoon the students went bowling while the teachers returned to the hotel and took a boat trip down the river Ruhr to Kettwig.

It was a beautiful day and we finally got to soak up some sunshine. The view was spectacular...Kettwig is a lovely traditional German town where we had an hour to explore. From here we took a bus heading towards Sigi, our German coordinator's house and had our meal there. We walked thorugh the German countryside for about two hours which was beautiful. When we landed upon Sigi's house, we had a lovely catered meal of chicken, vegatbles and potatoes. Lecker!! After some singing and guitar playing we made our way back to the hotel.

On Friday we all met at the school for our lessons. Students participated in lessons while teachers taught. After the lessons we said goodbye to some of our colleagues and headed for Essen where we went to an old coal mine and a design museum. It was fantastic. It was amazing to see an old coalmine converted rather than torn down and replaced by a large modern building. The grounds were lovely and we had our lunch here a while later.

In the evening, we were hosted by one of the English teachers at the school where we had a BBQ - German sausages amoung other things! It was a fantasic trip.
