Comenius Trip 4 - Day 5 and 6 -Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany

The last two days Mark and Tristan spent most of their time with their host family and the other students. We met up at the school on Thursday as it was a public holiday in Germany. While the Coordinators held their project meeting students and other teachers participated in mini- olympic games. From Basketball to Football they played sport for about 3 hours! We had lunch at the school which was provided by the parents of the German students. We also contributed - many teachers from our partner countries brought some good from their respective countries. It was quite an international meal.

In the afternoon the students went bowling while the teachers returned to the hotel and took a boat trip down the river Ruhr to Kettwig.

It was a beautiful day and we finally got to soak up some sunshine. The view was spectacular...Kettwig is a lovely traditional German town where we had an hour to explore. From here we took a bus heading towards Sigi, our German coordinator's house and had our meal there. We walked thorugh the German countryside for about two hours which was beautiful. When we landed upon Sigi's house, we had a lovely catered meal of chicken, vegatbles and potatoes. Lecker!! After some singing and guitar playing we made our way back to the hotel.

On Friday we all met at the school for our lessons. Students participated in lessons while teachers taught. After the lessons we said goodbye to some of our colleagues and headed for Essen where we went to an old coal mine and a design museum. It was fantastic. It was amazing to see an old coalmine converted rather than torn down and replaced by a large modern building. The grounds were lovely and we had our lunch here a while later.

In the evening, we were hosted by one of the English teachers at the school where we had a BBQ - German sausages amoung other things! It was a fantasic trip.

Comenius Trip 4 - Day 4 and 5 -Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany

Today we spent the day in Cologne. Even though it rained we still had a good time. The Cathedral was stunning and we walked to the top -560 steps! We had a tour and then had some free time so we went for lunch with the German students. Later we had a tour of the city and then we had tea in a restaurant which is also a brewery. It was fantastic- Chicken and chips German style.

Comenius Trip 4 - Day 3 -Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany

We were assemmbled into the auditorium and were greeted by the Head Teacher. The German coordinator tranlsated while he welcomed us to his school! It' a really nice school as well! Today we started by visiting the school and listening to all the countries give their presentations on where they go on holiday in their own country. It was really interesting to hear about the different places and what there is to do.
We were second to give our presentation as they were given in alphabetical order so naturally we were one of the first! We talked about a few places to visit in Lancashire and told everyone about Blackpool and the day that we (Mark and Tristan) spent there. Following a short brief, we showed our video of Blackpool, handed out Blackpool rock and Miss Underwood played some George Formby while we handed out the brochures and rock! That is one old song!!!

Here were were talking about our presentation.

We had a break and we drank coffee and ate some homemade Greek biscuits that the Greek team brought with them. They were really good!

The assemmbly hall was filled with German students too who took time from their lessons to come and listen to us! We put up a few posters that Miss Underwood brought with her in the corridor where everyone was puttiing things up about their countries.

Following the presentations, we headed to an old streetcar where we had lunch. It was really good and the weather was nice so we sat outside with some of the students on trip.
We then headed by tram to Oberhausen to visit the Gasometer where they had a very interesting exhibition and lots of photos from all over the world inside.
We took the lift up and then ran down the stairs- You can see how many there were in the picture on the right.

We then visited Oberhausen

After Oberhausen, we went back to the school where they had a party for us all and ate traditional Wurst- German sausage and played football most of the night! It was a great and very busy day. We will visit Cologne on Wednesday- We're looking forward to that.

Comenius Trip 4 - Day 1 and 2 -Mülheim an der Ruhr

Our flight from Manchester was great very efficient and we had priority Boarding!!

When we arrived we were met by our German host family and the German Coordinator Sigi. We left with Freddy and his family and Mrs Underwood and Mrs Hodgkinson went with Sigi to their hotel.
Our family were very kind and welcoming. We went to eat our evening meal in a local cafe and it was really nice food! We were quite impressed.

Mrs Underwood and Mrs Hodgkinson went to a barbeque at the German Coordinators' house with some of the other country coordinators and, we were told, the had a great time too.

On our second day (Monday) we were shown around Mülheim and went to a great shopping mall. We spent the day with our host family student -Freddy and many other German students! The offical programme kicks off tomorrow when we will show our video presentation.

Keep posted as there will be lots more to come!! Thanks for following- Mark and Tristan!
